TELLING ME LIES

(© 2016 John Harley Weston, Indy Clark & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
Set in a pub/bar this song is about losing your loved one to someone else and drowning your sorrows in alcohol, or perhaps it's the other way around.

this is as good as it gets, one more and I'll go
friends talk, their voices surround me
but I can’t hear a word
last call for more alcohol, one more for the road
you better take my keys off of me
cause I’m drowning in sorrow
i suppose life’s to short to wallow
might as well have another swallow
and another, then another

i’ve been making such as fool of myself
and you’ve been knowing why
while I’ve been thinking of nobody else
you’ve been telling me
telling me lies

yeah that’s right

barman says he’s been there before, make this your last
i twist the cap off a beer and I pour it in to the past
i’d never seen such a beautiful face smiling back at me
but now I’m watching as she leaves in someone else’s company
ah but life’s too short to wallow
i’ll get in another swallow, then another, and another, and another

i’ve been making such as fool of myself
and you’ve been knowing why
while I’ve been thinking of nobody else
you’ve been telling me
telling me lies,
lies
oh nothing but lies

back home there’s nothing to drink and I stare at the walls
the room spins and I’m feeling sick, sick to death of it all
is this as good as it gets, will I ever know
i lie still and the silence surrounds me but I hear every word
every word I hear, circling in my ears
oh no, no, no

i’ve been making such as fool of myself
without even knowing why
while I’ve been thinking of nobody else
you’ve been telling me, telling me lies
oh I’ve been making such as fool of myself
and you’ve been knowing why
while I’ve been thinking of nobody else
you’ve been telling me
telling me lies

telling me lies
been making such a fool of myself
you've been telling me
telling me lies

GO HARD OF GO HOME

(© 2016 John Harley Weston, Susan Higgins & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
This is about drinking again (mmm, bit of a theme going here), tequila this time. It's a tongue in cheek look at the inner battle with one’s mischievous alter ego who loves the booze.

follow me
follow me in to the bottle
something I’d like you to see
over yonder, there lies my sanity
well I lost it in a fight between myself and me

i think I’m going crazy but I could be going nuts
been crying like a baby and talking to myself too much
pass me my bottle, cause this sucks

go hard or go home, stop wasting my time
go hard or go home, quit squeezing my lime
i’ve got my work cut out, drinking margaritas
pour two more tequilas
go hard or go home

well I drink with him out of the bottle
yeah I know he’s bad company
but my alter ego ain’t got no sympathy
i keep wrestling with myself
he keeps trying to get the better of me

i think he’s going crazy but he could be going nuts
my alter ego’s waving the finger at me
you’re drinking too much
pass me my bottle, cause this sucks

go hard or go home, stop wasting my time
go hard or go home, quit squeezing my lime
i got my work cut out chatting up angelina
yeah I’m looking more handsome with every margarita
tell brad pitt, I’m never gonna leave her
two more tequilas
go hard or go home

yeah go hard or go home
yeah go hard or go home

there’s no worm at the end of this bottle
but something made a real ‘mezcal’ of me
and his Montecristo don’t smell so heavenly
oh Tequlia Gold, I know, you’re a fool’s discovery
i’m smashing the bottle, cause this sucks

go hard or go home, stop wasting my time
go hard or go home, you know I’ll be fine
i’ve got my work cut out, debating God with Jesus
now I’m talking to myself, down the big white telephone
please leave your message after the tone
two more tequilas, go hard or go home
pour two more tequilas, go hard or go home
pour two more tequilas, go hard or go home

WHEN TOMORROW COMES

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
Again, started this one many years ago and only recently finished it. This is about the figurative battle between two people as a relationship becomes weary and scarred, perhaps fuelled by one’s alcohol intake in previous songs.

pages are burning
a love story’s dying
warning words fired
like cold mercenaries for hire

then shots ring out, loves under fire
friends that once cared, now conspire

how can we be civil
when our world is in the middle
of a war against itself
where no-one wins and no-one cares
i fail to understand it
it’s not the way we planned it
perhaps it all will be revealed
to you and I
when tomorrow comes

old guns reloading
shells of pain exploding
wounded and wild
like a lost motherless child

then shots ring out, loves under fire

how can we be civil
when our world is in the middle
of a war against itself
where no-one wins and no-one cares
i fail to understand it
it’s not the way we planned it
perhaps it all will be revealed
to you and I
when tomorrow comes

your eyes say hold me
but you back away so slowly
a flag of truce raised
we surrender, both of us dazed

then shots ring out
love’s under fire
rescue is what we require

how can we be civil
when our world is in the middle
of a war against itself
where no-one wins and no-one cares
i fail to understand it
it’s not the way we planned it
perhaps it all will be revealed
to you and I
when tomorrow comes
oh, perhaps it all will be revealed
to you and I
when tomorrow comes

BETTER LUCK (Salt and Light)

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
Inspired by Ross Kemp's television show Extreme World about Glasgow's homeless.

she’s had trouble dealing with her failures
she’s had a right skinful of hurt
living on the streets now for too many years
oh she’s starting to feel like dirt
she was only nine when the damage was done
her mother's partner's hands to blame
now she's living rough, trying to kick her habit
she’s gonna get off the game

better luck is bound to come
better luck is bound to come
better luck is bound to come her way
(repeat)

she Left her three kids living with her mother
now she’s skippering under a bridge
it gets so cold here in the middle of winter
this dear old town can be a cold hard bitch
but is it any wonder she’s fallen through the cracks
in today’s society
when we all close our doors, turning a blind eye
just another homeless junkie

better luck is bound to come
better luck is bound to come
yeah better luck is bound to come her way
(repeat)

honestly
a little bit of luck is all she needs
some salt and light would kill the weeds

then the Housing give her an apartment
and with it come tears of change
maybe she can beat the system
get to see her mum and kids again
from her eyes, salt and light
spring to fill the ditch
she’s got hope now, running through her veins
hope is like being rich

now better luck is bound to come
better luck is bound to come
oh better luck is bound to come her way
(repeat)

MUSIC MAN

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
I started writing this in 1993 but only recently finished parts of it. It's about my journey in music, the highs and the lows, from major label deals to busking in markets, from Europe to Australia, it’s a long twisted road but it’s been a colourful journey...

this whole town is like a painted desert
this whole town is just a fading dream
well I look to the west and to the east
and I wonder which way is home
a music man never knows the answer
a music man only knows the score
i’ve travelled the road sixteen summers long
slightly behind the tempo of life
on a minor melody’s journey, mmm

this whole scene is like a dry oasis
this whole scene is just a gold mirage
i’ve played to the south and to the north
now I wonder, what is it really all worth
a music man can never find harmony
a music man may only hold the key
i’ve travelled this road sixteen winters long
through the prelude of my life
on a minor melody’s journey…mmm

i move where the rhythm takes me
play my songs from town to town
on busy streets all I see are shiny shoes
i’m a music man, come gather round
yeah I’m a music man, come and hear my sound

i left my home in search of something
i left my home, had something all along
i found the sun but I lost the moon
now I wonder why my life’s so out of tune
a music man never knows he’s reached the end
a music man only knows to rest
i travel the road and distant music still guides me
through the rock and roll of life
on a minor melody’s journey, yeah

i move where the rhythm takes me
play my songs from town to town
oh people please, won’t you slow your shiny shoes
i’m still a music man come gather round
yeah I’m a music man, lay your money down
i’m a music man, come and hear my,
come and hear my, come and hear my sound

once I wore a broach of celtic heather
once I wore a more thickened skin
now my blood runs thin without my band of brothers
and the warmth of the sun only kindles memories of others
a music man can’t always see the comedy in his tragedy
a music man can see the irony in life’s parody
how I long to taste sweet malted barley
with friends who once knew me
on a counter melody’s journey, yeah yeah

i move where the rhythm takes me
don’t like to tread the same old ground
though fame and fortune have forsaken me
i’m still a music man, come gather round
yeah I’m a music man, lay your money down
oh I’m a music man, come gather round
yeah I’m a music man, come and hear my,
come and hear my, come and hear my sound

RIVER OF HOPE

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
I started writing this in 2003 but only recently finished parts of it. It's about asylum seekers or 'boat people' as they're referred to in Australia.

the river of hope
the river of hope

i live on the island by the river of hope
i'm thankful for what I am given to cope
but few of us know what danger’s in scope
as we do our best to navigate the river of hope
disharmony is mutiny, together we are strong
forget about blame, who cares who is wrong
aboard this boat we all belong
if we set a course together we just might get along

never seen so many people in a hurry
never seemed to notice before
maybe I'm getting softer
maybe I'm getting old
maybe I'm getting weary
as I sail the river of hope

now the wind is howling and the river's on the rise
buildings crumble and planes fall from the skies
the storm has loosened family ties
but hope, she never dies
people cry for asylum but they can't board our boat
says our captain below deck as he pulls up his coat
yes it's cold out there but we've got no room to spare
send them back where they came from
but tell them we really do care

i’ve never known this many people to be angry
never meant this much to me before
maybe I'm getting softer
maybe I'm getting old
maybe things are getting clearer
as I sail this river of hope

captain says, steady as she goes, steady as she goes
keep her steady as she goes
though where we're heading no-one knows
then he falls to his knees and he prays
how many souls should I save

oh Lord remember me
the fog has fallen and I cannot see
how to guide my boat to shore
how to give just a little more
my hopes are tied, my heart's disabled
my body's weak and my mind’s unstable

i’ve never seen so many people in a hurry
never seemed to care much before
oh maybe I'm getting stronger
maybe I'm getting bold
maybe I'm getting wiser
as I sail, oh as I sail
this river of hope
i think it's time we changed our course

WHY SHOULD I CARE

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
As hard as life is for us in the 1st world, there are others who are much worse off. Bombarded with images and requests for help on social media, television and radio, from those less fortunate than us, we have become somewhat numb to their pleas for help. We’re all guilty to some extent but the situation can be helped if our leaders lead by example.

turn on my tv, press the remote control
turn up the volume so I can hear
the whole world is asking me, all we need is a little more
all we need is your money, so we can help the poor

contrast what is that for
if it’s not to show the difference
between good and bad, rights and wrongs
the mute button I know for sure
i use that when I can’t listen to the news any more

oh I’m not listening, I’m not watching
they’re not my friends, this is not my problem
can’t make me care, life is not fair
i’m just making a living, trying to get by
surely I’ve got a financial alibi
why, oh why, oh why, why should I care
because I am here and they are there

turn off my tv, turn on my radio
tune in to something I can feel
Bono is telling me, get off your ass, get up off your knees
we can house the homeless and feed the hungry

power what is it for
if it’s not to bridge the distance
between what’s live and what is dead
EQ I know for sure
wont make the news sound any better than it did before

so I’m not watching, I’m not listening
it’s not my fault we’re all born so different
can’t make me share, life is not fair
i know they’re barely living, skin and bone
but I need a new laptop and a new iPhone
why, oh why oh why, why should I care
because I am here and they are there
i am here and they are there

turn off my radio, get on the internet
in the search for news that’s real
Charlize Theron shares with me
Facebook posts, Twitter commentary
one good individual soon becomes an army

well I’m liking, I’m friending
retweeting, what’s trending
share it if you like it, it if you like

now I’m listening, I’m watching
but I don’t know how we solve this problem
why do I despair, what point is there
i’m no famous musician, no Hollywood star
it takes strong politicians to raise the bar
oh why, oh why, oh why should I care
because I am here

making a living, trying to get by
surely I’ve got a financial alibi
i need a new lawnmower, a new chainsaw, a bigger shed,
a roof over the back deck, a 55 inch tv
why should I care
because I am here and they are there

BYRON BAY BLUES

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
A reggae blues song about traveling in my old car to one of the greatest music festivals in the world, Byron Bay Bluesfest.

grab my old guitar and my book of songs
leave my coat behind, put on my Billabongs
throw my big black bag in my Bluebird sedan
i’m not gonna stop, until I feel the golden sand
(are we there yet…)
i hear the beach is cool and the music crazy
the crowds are wild, all funky skunky fazed
and the streets are lined with a tie dyed haze
you can trade in your rhythm greys

for some Byron Bay Blues
are we there yet
byron Bay blues
are we there yet

across the border, on Pacific Highway
follow green, green signs, leading to Byron Bay
the gearbox whines as if to say
hey Johnny I’ve had enough today
(are we there yet…)
turn up my radio to drown out the sound
25 years of motor, run hard into the ground
but what is this music that I’ve found
gotta tune out the rhythm browns

put on some Byron Bay Blues
are we there yet
Byron Bay blues
are we there yet
Byron Bay Blues
are we there yet
Byron Bay Blues
are we there yet

just when I thought I’d have to hitch a ride
DJ says here’s one with a little bit of slide
suddenly the engine was purified
she said, ‘I might be old but I’ve still got some pride’
(are we there yet…)
and that’s why I’m here peddling my song
if we’re on the same highway, kick off your Billabongs
and ease your foot off life’s gasoline
we can zone out on some rhythm green

or try some Byron Bay Blues
are we there yet
Byron Bay Blues
oh, are we there yet?

GHOST OF MODERN TIMES

(© 2016 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)
About stress induced insomnia caused by the feeling one needs to keep up with modern technology in order to stay current, and the general worry that can lead to depression, having to provide for a family in these modern times. I started writing this in 1997 but obviously hadn’t lived enough, until now, to finish it.

i saw a face outside my window
such a withered face I’ve never seen
i put my head under my pillow
trying not to dream, trying not to scream
when I was young I had some nightmares
but scenes like these I’ve never seen
this ghost of modern times just stares
they’re haunting me, taunting me
wanting me, get behind me

isn’t it time I slept a little easier
isn’t it time I raised my head in the morning
and felt a little better deep inside
and freed myself from the ghost of modern times

i feel so weighed down by technology
though I know it’s no substitute for art
all modern times become ghosts eventually
but a song remains a part of life’s beating heart
up to my neck in a pit of worry
this crude black darkness shrouds my thoughts in bile
i toss and turn, old bones to bury
digging deep to smile
where do they keep my smile
it must be in this pile
i wish they’d let me sleep a while

isn’t it time I slept a little easier
isn’t it time I raised my head in the morning
and felt a little better deep inside
and freed myself from the ghost of modern times

i fear that I am running out of time
like a tired sprinter who can never reach
an ever moving finish line
life has thrown me boulders
and I’ve lost my joie de vivre
i know I should roll back my shoulders
build a wall to stand upon so I can see
future without struggle
some money in the bank
a wee bit of hope for my family
surely not too much to ask
for what I’ve got I’ve already given thanks

ah but life doesn’t owe me, I must remember that

when I see others who have nothing
i feel my desire’s laced with greed and fat
so maybe, just some breathing space is all I really need
so I can lay to rest this ghost of modern times
and finally get some sleep

i wish they’d let me sleep a while
i wish they’d let me sleep a while
so wake up
i wish they’d let me sleep a while
come on wake up

isn’t it time I slept a little easier
isn’t it time I raised my head in the morning
and felt a little better deep inside
and freed myself from the ghost of modern times

I'LL HAVE ANOTHER ONE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH

© 2013 John Harley Weston all rights reserved
Not a song, just a cheers to my friends….

one should always make time for the hops and barley
with friends like Klaus, Indy, Bob, Ross, Cam, Ray, even Charlie
for when work is done and the life's race is run
the memories distilled at the local inn recall the most fun
swaying the mug, on slainte and friendship we'll feast
as we order more laughter and cajolery before we're deceased
it is this we'll remember with fondness of heart
while they ready the grave and call on the cart
so I'll have another one thank you very much
yes I'll have another one, friends, thank you very much

WELCOME BACK TO REALITY

(© 2007 John Harley Weston, All Rights Reserved)

Station platform….stairs and traincourse may be slippery
Walk slowly, do not run and watch your step…thank you

I’m standing in a crowded station
I’m wondering where life is leading to
Take a different train
But the same destination
Keeps coming up
How will I find my way
Back to reality

I’ll take the train to Foundation if all else fails me
And I’ll get off at the points of no return
I’ll wait a while by the banks of contemplation
And they’ll say, welcome back to Reality

I see photographs of beautiful lifestyles on every billboard
Oh they’re everywhere
But if things don’t work out quite the way you want them to
You can spend your life
Just waiting for a revelation
To come to you
It’s gonna come to you
What you gonna do
I would

Take the train to Foundation if all else fails you
And get off at the points of no return
Wait a while, smell the grass, hug the trees, put out the trash
Oh welcome back to Reality

I’ve come this far to see myself
And now I’m here can’t do much else
Hey look at me…what do you see?
I know life has no guarantees
Well I packed my bags and closed the door
Took a journey back in to my soul
Finally found the way back to Reality
And I say

Hey, take the train to Foundation if all else fails you
That’s what to do
And get off at the points of no return
Oh yeah, wait a while, smell the grass, hug the trees, put out the trash
You’ve finally found your way
Back to reality…….hee hee
Welcome back to Reality

All passengers…this is the end of the line
Leave your excess baggage behind……….welcome back to Reality.

PICKLEFORK

(© 2007 John Harley Weston, All Rights Reserved)

I wish I was on a pickle fork, out past the breakers
Heading on a north, on the way up to Cairns
I wish I was at the casino, placing a bet
On a roulette table with a silver sable
As my lucky charm and yet
I’d rather be a piece of timber
Floating on the reef
I’d see the colours of the rainbow
On the fishes down beneath

I dream a lot
Yeah I dream a lot
But you’ve got to see the fun in it

Now I cannot see the ocean
I cannot see the sun
I cannot see anything
Has dementia begun
Ocean replaced by railroads
And islands in the sun
Are now buildings like leviathan
And people are on the run
And instead of barramundi
I’m chewing on a lunch
Of city smog and attitude
Just waiting for the crunch

So I dream a lot
Yeah I dream a lot
But you’ve got to see the fun in it

Well this old millstone ain’t that bad
Suppose it could be worse
I could find myself in a railroad shack
With a bottle of juice as a friend
So I’m sailing on my pickle fork
One day I’ll be free
Or maybe this game of mine
Will be the death of me
But if we don't laugh
And we don't cry
We wont dream and we wont fly

So I dream a lot
Yeah I dream a lot
But you’ve got to see the fun in it
I dream a lot
Yeah I dream a lot
But you’ve got to see the fun in it

WOULDN'T MISS A DAY

(© 2007 John Harley Weston, All Rights Reserved)

How many people are thankful for what they’ve got
How many people still want what they have not
How many people really know the way
How many people are lost in the world today

We have got to be thankful
We have got to be sure
Be sure that what we’ve got is more than enough
It’s all about life, it’s all about love

Not everything in life is wonderful
Not everything in life is bliss
Not everything in life is beautiful
But I wouldn’t miss a day
I wouldn’t miss a day

How many people learn to mend before they break
How many people learn to give before they take
This generation – got so much at stake
This generation – got to seize the day

We have got to be thankful
We have got to be sure
Be sure that what we’ve got is more than enough
It’s all about life, it’s all about love

Not everything in life is wonderful
Not everything in life is bliss
Not everything in life is beautiful
But I wouldn’t miss a day
I wouldn’t miss a day
No way

It’s all about life it’s all about love
It’s all about life
It’s all about life it’s all about love

Not everything in life is wonderful
Not everything in life is bliss
Not everything in life is beautiful
But I wouldn’t miss a day
I wouldn’t miss a day
Wouldn't miss a day

RIGHTEOUS SON (ode to Van Nguyen)

(© 2007 John Harley Weston, All Rights Reserved)

My name is Van Nguyen
I’m 25 years old
No previous convictions
But I’m on death row
To save my brother
I agreed to be a mule
And carry drugs to Singapore
What a fool, life is cruel
Righteous Son

Alone with my thoughts
I don’t like what they say
When life is the cost
It’s too much to pay
I can’t deny that I’ve done wrong
The noose is my fate
But will you be there at heaven’s door
Or will you be late, should I wait
Righteous Son

Hold on to me, hold on to me,
Hold on to me my Righteous Son
Your body may get weary
But your soul will remain steady
If you hold on to me my Righteous Son

What on earth have I done
I used to be good
I’m my own mother’s son
Underneath this hood
And if I drink this holy water
You say I’ll be saved
But am I only sorry cause I got caught,
Now I’m a slave, to the grave
Righteous Son

Hold on to me, hold on to me,
Hold on to me my Righteous Son
If it’s forgiveness that you need
I can guarantee God speed
If you hold on to me my Righteous Son

WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY

(© 2007 John Harley Weston, All Rights Reserved)

I don’t know what on earth has come over me
Lately I’ve been thinking I’ve found life’s remedy
So I’ve decided I’m not going to live a lie
I’m gonna do what makes me happy and maybe I’ll get by

Gonna pour myself a cup of life
And live today like there’s no tomorrow

Do whatever makes you happy
Whatever makes you smile
Whatever keeps you laughing
When all the colour has run dry
Whatever makes you happy
Whatever….
Makes you happy

Keep it simple stupid there’s a whole lot of truth in that
But sometimes you’ve got to fight to the end just to find the start
Don’t let your dreams just slip away
Where there’s a will you can always find a way

Just pour yourself a cup of life
And live each day with the time you’ve borrowed

Do whatever makes you happy
Whatever makes you smile
Whatever keeps you rockin’
Stay on that road a while
Do whatever makes you happy
Whatever makes you
Whatever makes you

Whatever keeps you sane
Whatever lights your flame
You know it’s all the same
(Do whatever makes you happy)
Whatever gets you high
Whatever makes time fly
You know you just can’t buy
(Whatever makes you happy)

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever makes you smile
Whatever keeps you laughin’
Stay on that road a while
Do whatever makes you happy….fade

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

(© 2007 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones, All Rights Reserved)

If you believe in yourself
You can do anything
Your destiny waits
Right there in the wings
Well you’ve done your time
Paid more than your dues
It’s time to move on
You’ve got nothing to lose

To dream is no crime
To love is no sin
Hold your head high and don’t look down
Don’t ever give in

Live your dreams
Don’t let anybody tell you you can’t win
Face your fears
If there’s a mountain up ahead just keep climbing
Believe in yourself

Yeah live your dreams baby
Everything’s going to be okay
Don’t look to the past
Just live your life today
Believe in yourself
You can do anything
Your destiny’s waiting
It’s right there in the wings

To dream is no crime
To love is no sin
Hold your head high and don’t look down
Let your life begin

Live your dreams
Don’t let anybody tell you you can’t win
Face your fears
If there’s a mountain up ahead just keep climbing
Believe in yourself

When you wake up tomorrow
Let a new day begin (x2)
Listen hard to the voice
To the voice from within (x2)
You can win (x2)

Chorus (repeat)

I'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU LONELY

(© 2007 John Harley Weston & John' Swanee' Swan, All Rights Reserved)

I am an ordinary man
Who lives to an ordinary plan
I take life as it comes and goes
You are an extraordinary girl
Who lives in an extraordinary world
But you’re forever chasing rainbows

Where do you have to go to find yourself
When all you need is here and now
What use is there in chasing rainbows
Can’t you see
I’ll never leave you lonely
I’ll never leave you…

I’ll never leave you lonely again
I’ll never leave you wanting for anything
And when it’s cold I’ll keep you warm
I’ll never leave you on your own
I’ll never leave……you lonely

They say that true love never dies
But who are they
The truth is in your eyes
I know I’m not easy to live with…..that’s true
You built me up when all my hope was gone
And now you’re going to tear it all down

Where do you have to go to find yourself
When all you need is here and now
What truth is there in chasing rainbows
Can’t you see
I’ll never leave you lonely
I’ll never leave you……

I’ll never leave you lonely again
I’ll never leave you wanting for anything
And when it’s cold I’ll keep you warm
I’ll never leave you on your own
I’ll never leave, I’ll never leave
I’ll never leave you on your own
I’ll never leave………you lonely

I’ll never leave you lonely baby
Oh won’t you come back

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME

How high is the cost
Of love that is lost
What price should I pay
To buy yesterday
Which rocks should I turn
For you to show me concern
What bridges can I mend
To bring you home again

Can’t you see there’s not a moment to lose
Open up your heart it’s time to choose
What do you want….what do you want from me

Why hold on to dreams
And all those old themes
Why make myself sad
Looking through old photographs
What more can I say
To relive yesterday
What more can I do
You know that I love you

Can’t you see there’s not a moment to lose
Open up your heart it’s time to choose
What do you want….what do you want from me

I know that you are lonely
I can see it in your eyes
Don’t leave it too long
Before you realise (x2)
What do you want
What do you want from me

Can’t you see there’s not a cloud in the sky
Open up your heart it’s time to fly
What do you want….what do you want from me

LET YOUR LIFE BEGIN

(© 2007 John Harley Weston, All Rights Reserved)

If you believe in yourself
You can do anything
Your destiny waits
Right there in the wings
Yeah

You’ve done your time
Paid more than your dues
It’s time to move on
You’ve got nothing to lose
Yeah

To dream is no crime
To love is no sin
Just hold your head high
Let your life begin
Yeah, let your life begin……Let your life begin

Live your dreams baby
Everything’s going to be okay
Don’t look to the past
Live your life today
Believe in yourself
You can do anything
Destiny waits
Right there in the wings
Let Your Life Begin (x2)

To dream is no crime
To love is no sin
Just hold your head high and let your life begin
Hey….let your life begin (x3)

When you wake up tomorrow
Let a new day begin
Listen hard to the voice from within
You can win, you can win, you can win just let your life begin
Let your life begin
You can win, you can win, you can win if you let your life begin
Let your life begin
You can win, you can win, you can win if you let your life begin
Let your life begin

WALTZING MATILDA

(© AB Patterson. Re-arrangement 2007 John Harley Weston)

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a coolibah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me

Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong
Up got the swagman and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker-bag
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker-bag
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me

Down came the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred
Up came the troopers one, two, three
Who's the jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker-bag?
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me
Who's the jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker-bag?
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me.

Up got the swagman and jumped into the billabong
You'll never catch me alive said he
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me.

Brothers & Sisters

(© 2003 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones all rights reserved)

there's a tree in my garden

that grows so tall
there's a tree in my garden
bigger than them all
so throw down your guns
throw down your weapons of war

if you can't understand me
just try to believe
my intentions are noble
my intentions are clear
lay down your guns
lay down your weapons of war

brothers and sisters
mothers and fathers
children and sages
are trying to make a difference
dying to make a difference

from the tree in my garden
the white dove flies
to the hearts of the hardened
through blooded skies
and peace is the message she carries

now if you can't understand me
just try to believe
my intentions are noble
my intentions are clear
lay down your guns
lay down your weapons of war

brothers and sisters
mothers and fathers
children and sages
are trying to make a difference
dying to make a difference

time is money
money is time
spend it wisely
or it will rob you blind
throw down your weapons
lay down your guns
brother and sisters let us live as one

Cant' Buy Love

(© 2003 John Harley Weston all rights reserved)

some people send shivers down your backbone

some people shiver in the cold
some people really got a bad tone
and some people can really break the ice

tell me what you want so I can obilge
my name is Angel, I'm ready for a good time
may I suggest that you try the wine
if you've got the cash I've got the time

you can't buy love
no matter how much you pay
you can't buy love
you earn a little every day
now love no you can't buy love
'cause it only leaves you thinking
that you've had enough

so take a walk down endless street
there are people selling off their love so very very cheap
few of us notice and few of us care
but I say every man has the right to share

please tell me what you want so I can oblige
my name is Angel, I'm ready for a good time
ready for a good time

you can't buy love
no matter how much you pay
you can't buy love
you earn a little every day
now love no you can't buy love
'cause it only leaves you thinking
that you've had enough
it only leaves you thinking
that you've had enough

tell me what you want
tell what you need
tell me would you sell your soul for money
tell me what you want
tell me what you need
do you need LOVE

you can't buy love
no you can't buy love
no you can't buy you can't buy love
you earn a little every day now baby
oh don't you know
you can't buy love

When The Battle Is Over

(© 2003 John Harley Weston all rights reserved)

battles are lost and some are won
but the fighting of course is never done
it's easy to hope in shallow dreams
but who will attend to the casualties

when the battle is over
when the fighting's done
when the wars have ended
let us, let us
let us live as one

children of the world open your eyes
can't you see that your leaders wear a disguise
your country is ready to burst at the seams
lay down your arms and live out your dreams

wow
when the battle is over
when the fighting's done
when the wars have ended
we can all live as one
when the battle is over
when the fighting's done
when the wars have ended
let us
let us live as one

sing out
wow
when the battle is over
when the fighting's done
when the wars have ended
we can all live as one
when the battle is over
when the fighting's ceased
when the wars have ended
let us
let us lLet us live in peace

Last Days Of Summer

(© 2003 John Harley Weston & Tony Beard all rights reserved)

i remember my younger days
the warm July's and the street parades
the summers since have never been the same
well I recall your gypsy ways
your violet scented sweet bouquet
i close my eyes and the summer's here again

i'm going to dance 'til the sun goes down x 3
on me baby, baby, oh yeah

these are the last days of summer
these are the first leaves to fall
don't let them pass, don't let them fall
two million birds well they can't be wrong
i said now these are the last days of summer
last days

geronimo was our battle cry
but with some games you know you're never going to die
we're different people now and different rules apply
now broken dreams fill broken bottles
and broken hearts are filled with broken arrows
i don't know much about love
But I sure know what I'm thinking of

i said these are the last Days of summer
i said these are the first leaves to fall
don't let them pass, don't let the fall
two million birds well they can't be wrong
i said now these are the last days of summer
oh yeah
these…………………… are the last days of summer

Be Good (To Yourself)

(© 2003 John Harley Weston all rights reserved)

farewell my only friend

won't be seeing you for a while
lately we've become so close
and I'm really going to miss your smile
forgive me, forgive me
if I don't come to say goodbye
but I will leave you with this note I write
and I promise to stay in touch

be good to yourself
and you know that life will be good to you
be good to your own sweet self
and I say life will be good to you
be good to you

sister come share my wine
you know the time, the time has come to pass
all I know is I don't really want to go
but I'm sure that our love will last
yeah I'm sure now

be good to yourself
and you know that life will be good to you
be good to yourself now
and I say life will be good to you
life will be so good
be good to your own sweet self
and I say life will be good
life will be good
life will be good
be good to you

well I knew the time would come when I'd be moving on
i thought nothing could go wrong
well it's written in this song
listen

be good to yourself, that's what I say now
and life will be good to you
don't you know
be good to your own sweet self now
and I say life will be good
life will be good

won't be seeing you
i'm really going to miss your smile
it's time to say goodbye
won't be seeing you
i'm really going to miss your smile
it's time to say goodbye

Love Is The Mystery

(© 2003 John Harley Weston all rights reserved)

the first time that we met
i knew there was a tight connection
the next time that we met
i gave right in to temptation

pass on the word, the recipe
give all the world a key
come share the golden egg it's free
love is the mystery

you're in my heart and in my soul
you are my one desire
and I know I can rely on your kindred spirit
to have and to hold until the final minute
now I'm yours and you're mine

at first I was afraid
nut then I came to my senses
and if I live again
i would not make any changes

to find the grail, unmask mystique
transcend the highest peak
the truth is there for all to seek
love is the mystery

you're in my heart and in my soul
you are my one desire
and I know I can rely on your kindred spirit
yo have and to hold from this very minute
now I'm yours and you're mine

are we too blind to see
have we solved the mystery
only a fool would not believe
when shown the way so easily, so easily

you're in my heart and in my soul
you wear my ring to show it
and I know I can rely on your kindred spirit
to have and to hold from this very minute
now I'm yours and you're mine

Everybody

(© 2003 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones all rights reserved)

for all those people in late night bars
all those people stuck in cars
you know there's always something better
for all those people trying to get home
and all those people on their own
why don't you get together
and the world will be free
so free

everybody needs some love to set them free
a little loving, a little love for everyone
everybody needs some love to set them free

for all those people who could but don't
all those people that should but won't
there's always something better
well all those people have lost their way
all those people should dream of a brighter day
we're going to dream of a brighter day

everybody needs some love to set them free
a little loving, a little love for everyone
everybody needs some love to set them free
the world just wants to be so free

people in cars, peoples in bars
people just want to be free
people who do, people who don't
the people need a remedy
the people need a remedy

everybody needs some love
wow hey, hey, hey
everybody needs some love

everybody needs some love
to set them free
a little loving aha
a little love for everyone
everybody needs some love
to set them free

Beautiful Day In The City

(© 2003 John Harley Weston all rights reserved)

i'm moving town today
i've packed up all my things
i'm heading for the city
i'm going to see what luck it brings me

well I hear the music's better
and the future's always bright
and people always tell me
success comes overnight

it's a beautiful day in the city
such a beautiful day in the city

well I'm pulling in to town now
there's a man on the corner
he's trying to sell me flowers
he says charity's his only daughter

well now I've got the blues
and I've got roses too
hey there mister
what you trying to prove

it's a beautiful day in the city
such a beautiful day in the city
a beautiful day for drifting away
a beautiful day

well I watch as time goes by
and nothing seems to change my view
when something is wrong
and it's hard to carry on
there's one thing that I always do
i sit here thinking of you
and It's a beautiful day

i was told the music's better
and the future's always bright
and people always told me
success comes overnight

it's a beautiful day in the city
it's a beautiful day in the city
it's a beautiful day for drifting away
a beautiful day

Want To Be Loved By You

© 2003 John Harley Weston & Sandy Jones all rights reserved

mama's in the kitchen
papa's in his chair
baby's in the back room
crying for some care
as papa tries to close his eyes
mama hangs her head and cries
is this love is this happiness

i just want to be loved by you baby
i just want to be loved, don't you
i just want to be loved by you, by you

well mama still remembers flowers in her hair
when love was in the bedroom, when love was in the air
funny though how you can't recall
the day the feeling leaves you all
you say is this love is this happiness

i just want to be loved by you baby
i just want to be loved, don't you
i just want to be loved by you, by you
repeat

mama's out the kitchen now
sitting in papa's chair
that baby's got a girl in trouble
but he don't seem to care
now what is life and what is love
if you've got no-one to share it with
i said I just want to be loved by you baby
by you

i just want to be loved by you baby
i just want to be loved, don't you
i just want to be loved by you
by you

i just want to be loved by you
yeah I just want to be loved
doesn't everybody
i just want to be loved by you
by you
